The metaphor for man's journey from birth to death ... Genesis (Birth) to Revelations (self judgement on the death bed) When viewed in this manner, everything written takes on a new perspective ... And even more. Perhaps you would be interested in reading Jung's take on it, if you have not done so already. I would especially recommend his book _Answer to Job_, first published in 1958 in which he discusses how the Bible reflects (and thus acts as guide to) man's journey to not just his deathbed...but through the individuation process...and ultimately to Self Realization. Jung often cited (and apparently was influenced by) the 17th century Christian mystic Jacob Boehme who had written himself about the transformative/ alchemical symbolism in the Christian mythology.
