Guest guest
In discussions with folk regarding healthy lifestyles and aging I occasionally get the irrational response, "Well who wants to live a long life in decay and pain.' This never made any sense as I already knew what this research suggests. (common sense, I suppose) Enjoy, David =================================================================== Living Well Means Aging Well - Aging well means living longer without living in 'old age'. For many years medical experts have debated whether longer lives afforded by healthy lifestyle choices result in additional years of 'old age' characterized by infirmity and dependence. Recent research from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 'The New England Journal of Medicine' provides good news for those who consistently make lifestyle choices with lower health risks. Health was assessed on the basis of smoking, body mass, and exercise habits. Health status was evaluated by rating cumulative disability, which measured degree of independence and vitality. Health lifestyle choices not only increase life expectancy but also decrease time spent in disability. People who don't smoke and who keep lean and fit enjoy fewer years of dependence at the end of life. The future looks pretty good for those who choose to reap the benefits of fitness and good health. ===================================================================
