Guest guest
For a few days of Kalachakra, there was a continious sound that sounded like cicada bugs. It was monks making the sand mandala. During the time of that creation, in the morning, many lamas, monks & HH Dalai Lama would be doing something called the "sadhana of the mind" Since i know about enough Tibetan to say i dont know it at all, i could not follow the chanting. I would find myself going into my own practises, or reading a book. I had a book called "Taking the Kalachakra initiation" and i also had Dudjom Lingpa's "Buddhahood Without Meditation" (note, you cant read that second one w/o permission!, secret Dzogchen stuff!) Since we were not in the Mandala yet, we were standing on the eastern porch. >From that wonderful vantage point, HHDL gave teachings on Shantideva's Bodhisattvacarya (way of the bodhisattva) specifically the chapter on meditation. During that time, he praised the people who were only there for the teachings, and said they were superior in many ways to those who only took the initiation. The teachings were the real reason we were there. I will look at my notes and attempt to highlight a few things later. what a wonderful place it was to be standing, on Lama Kalachakra's eastern porch. maitri, --janpa
