Hello all,

I'm Jim, I've posted once or twice over the last several months, but

mostly I lurk. Usually, when I have a question on my mind, I only have

to pay attention to the posts and my answers appear before me like

magic, for which I am gratefull to you all.

Today however, I will post my question. What is the relationship between

the color Blue and Sexuality? Somewhere in the back of my mind I feel

a vauge memory that there is a connection, something I read I'm sure.

On one occasion, during intercourse, everything turned blue, my partner,

the room, the very air seemed to become a sky blue, for an instant, then

it was gone. Anybody know what that was?

curiouser and curiouser,

Jim

My instinctive response to the link between blue and sexuality, is that

blue is the colour of water and sexuality is of course linked to the

flow of bodily fluids. Water is also symbolic of the psyche, of

"plunging in" and that is something that sexual intimacy does - it

allows us to plunge the depths of our psyche.

The traditional colours associated with Swadhisthana chakra (the sexual

chakra, located in the pelvic region) are either orange, or in the

Tantric scheme a silver crescent moon. Blue is often associated with

Vishuddhi chakra (throat), or in Tantra the heart centre (Anahata) is a

six-pointed blue star - which would also fit in with your experience of

blue while making love.

Jim:

Thank you Michele for your thoughtfull response, it's begining to make

sense

to me now. It occured at a transitional point in my life, when I was

making

a lot of new connections between my heart and my words. It's

fascinating to

think that we're unconciously hard wired with this sort of symolism,

what is

it? Where does it come from? Is it built on the endless stream of data

flowing

out of our surroundings and into our heads only? or is there more to it

than

that?

I believe it is Robert Johnson who wrote "Love in Vain."

You're right, it was. I wasn't sure if the lyric was his originally or

he adapted.

Dear Jim,

Ah, where does it come from? Carl Jung became fascinated by the very

question you ask. In analyzing over 80,000 dreams of the many patients he

saw in his career, symbols would occur such as mandalas, or the same ones

used in alchemical writings, or in ancient cultures. Mostly these patients

had no direct knowledge of their previous use in other contexts. Jung

proposed the collective unconscious to account for this shared awareness,

and recurring symbols of mankind. Buddhists speak of the "storehouse" of

consciousness containing seeds which the right conditions bring into being.

Its a fascinating question to explore.

Antoine stop? A miracle beyond imaginative realms :-)

The dove floating in air, swimming in water, blossomming

perfumes in earth, snake in fire...

Snake? Mom, Antoine is playing with snakes again!

Mummy is so very British!! I feared the English were destroying the

Frenchness of your culture.

See, with my kids I always first asked them, "Why do you think it might be

so?" This gave me some great quotes to write in their books of sayings.

Sometimes whole stories would be imagined. It was fun.
