Guest guest
Upon reflection there are three possible teachers that I have met here in town. Is there a right way and a wrong way to approach them to ask if I could learn with them? It probably depends on the individual and the "fit". Any +keys+ to share? Since so many of us suscribe to both, at least we don't have to give you up. Good luck on your search in London-- isn't UWO where the For Better For Worse son went to college?? A word to the wise--stay away from the Suma Ching Hai folks--they're nice and all and have great food, but i don't think they have a whole lot to offer..i know they are very active in London(been there, done that--not in London, alas) > > > > All paths go somewhere. Guest guest
Hi Linda, Rather than trying to force this journey, I'll retreat, and meditate for a bit. Still listening. Lynne
Guest guest
Hi Lynne: Welcome to . I don't know if what I have to say are 'keys' but it is important to find some good tools for meditation and self-inquiry. It is also good to have some others to with whom you can share your findings and questions. This sharing is what is wonderful about this group as the sincerity of truth and compassion here is a source of both comfort and growth. As for looking for a teacher it is good to keep in mind that this is a journey of 'self' and eventually it comes back to what is within you. Any good teacher will not lose sight of the fact that you already know and already are 'it'. If a teacher seems really into his own pumped up self-image there is a problem, if he believes that he has the only truth and the best path there is a problem. There is a difference between respect and fear. Observe the other students do they seem afraid to question? Do they seem appear peaceful to be around the teacher? If you are afraid to approach a certain person I would take that as a signal that it is not a right fit. As we move closer to the truth of self there is a tendency for the ego to rear it's head in a big way and as a result of this part of the journey there can be too much unrecognized ego in many who believe that they are qualified to lead others. As Dan stated in a earlier post "The Garden of Eden is a Dangerous Place" - (sorry Dan if I mis-quoted but that is how I remember the words). It is good that the Garden of Eden is also the best place to be. And thanks for many insightful posts from Rainbo, Melody, Janpa, Mike, Michele, Dan, Dirk, Jan, Xena, Lynne, Nora, Gloria, Antoine, Andrew, David, Carolyn, Xan, Nasir, Dharma, Greg, Jim, Holly, and others. I am sorry to see Mike leave but I understand people are busy with a number of things. Misunderstandings are bound to happen on occasion on the e-mail forum. With some sensitivity and reflection these can be resolved. Nonviolence and compassion are the underlying themes that color the interaction in this Sangha. We enforce these with an iron fist! . Just kidding. A little humor, that's all. Remember Kojak. He was bald, always sucking a lollypop and used to say, "Hey who loves you baby" . I was thinking, maybe this could be the accepted a line any member can use to make up with another member with whom they have done a philosophical tango with. Just a thought. Hey, who loves you baby? A child will satisfied when got toy, but the man will not. The man may be will satisfied when got real car. Some peoples need only chanting mantra, another ones need only meditation, doing ritual and etc, very plural. Sorry, this is not my speech and i know i'm not in the 'position' to give a speech.:-) That's the speech of Dharma form a monks that we invited last night in celebration of Kathina day. I know that all of you here understood this in your mind very well :-) > Nonviolence and compassion are the underlying themes that color the > interaction in this Sangha.
