Guest guest
Hi All, The Opra Show just now was on Y2K, and many experts were interviewed. Here's what they said. The positive: Don't expect much problem. Prepare as you would for a long holiday weekend... you would normally want to have everything you might need, just in case of a snowstorm, etc. Food, water, toilet paper, money, gas in the car, etc. But don't get these things at the last minute. Flying should be okay between the US and countries where we normally have flights to. On the other hand: All the experts kept stressing not to panic. That seems to be what they're most worried about: a panic. IF people panic, it might cause a problem, especially with a run on gas and money. The head of a company that manages many ATF machines all over the country said that IF many people try to get cash all at once, there might be a problem. A banking expert was aksed whether it would be safer to withdraw all of one's money from the bank. She said to remember that there will still be thieves and fires, etc., and that your money is insured as long as it is in the bank. The advice (heard over and over) to prepare for a long holiday weekend seems to indicate that they foresee possible problems for a few days. The aviation expert would not speak for flight between countries other than the US, i.e., Paris to Moscow. She said to check nearer to the date. She said our people have been working with airports in other countries that we normally have flights to. News: CNN will be monitoring the situation at the changing of the year. For instance, a CNN person in another country will get money from ATM at 2 minutes before midnight... and again at 2 minutes after midnight. Looks like if there is any problem, CNN will know first. Note for Mac users: Macs never had a Y2K problem. The only problem you can have is with sources/companies that don't use Macs.
