Dan: "I" cannot conceive this because "I" depends on

what doesn't exist to conceive of itself. "I"'s

conceptions, based on assumptions of, and reactions to

its own existence, also cannot be said to exist.

j: Yet there is a kind of a paradox. Although the "I" can truly be said not

to exist (because it and what comes to it doesn't leave a memory when

"died"), the effects on the body will show up in terms of beneficial

physical side-effects like slower breathing and brainwave patterns,

indicating relaxation independent of activity. Although without the "I" one

couldn't have learned to take care of the body, once that learning has been

finished, the body is "better off" without it.
