Guest guest
This past summer, an imposingly large black snake took up residence at my front porch. Since I respectfully left him in peace to sun on the steps, he gifted me with the intact skin he shed. The transparent skin has beautiful colors, unseen when on the snake. I want to write a poem about this, so first I reach for the easy metaphor of what I would shed to emerge reborn, but the more I look at this incrediblely beautiful snakeskin... me vanishing like the snake to let the light shine through has more appeal. No words can speak what this snakeskin says to me so silently, leaving me just to stare at this image of emptiness... and the vanished snake is . If you keep a flowering branch in your heart, surely the singing bird will come. ~Chinese Saying http://www.users.uniserve.com/~samuel/gloria1.htm
