Guest guest
Hi All, Last evening I had fallen asleep, and GB, my guide, woke me up. I came out to the living room and turned on the TV to help me wake up. A new TV movie, "Tuesday With Morrie," was just about to begin. I had kind of half-heard the ads for it and wasn't interested... but as it began, suddenly I realized who Morrie was! I _heard_ him on the radio some years back, when I was on a long trip. A man who was dying of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), which slowly paralyzes the whole body... A teacher who decided it was his last teaching assignment. So he was telling everybody about the process of dying, confronting people with what some didn't want to hear about... what they feared... "Until you know how to die," he said, "you don't know how to live." So I watched his story, with Jack Lemmon playing Morrie. The movie focuses on Morrie's relationship with a former student, who comes to see him every Tuesday. And Morrie's spirit and wisdom and love just transform the younger man's life. He realizes that all the fears that have kept him doing this and that... and NOT doing this and that... are so unimportant. He isn't happy, he isn't doing what he wants to do with his time, he isn't making time to love and be with the people he loves... and that's what's important. Morrie told a wonderful technique... he said it was Buddhist. He said you have this little bird on your left shoulder... and every morning you ask the bird, "Is this the day I'm going to die?" And if the bird says, NO, then you have a whole wonderful day ahead. What do you want to do with it? The point is, he said, to live in such a way that you are always ready to die... you're doing what's really important... you're loving people... you have no regrets. A wonderful movie... if you didn't see it, watch for it to be on again... and do try to watch it. ABC's "Nightline" is going to do a show on Morrie... "Nightline" wasn't on last night, so I guess that will be tonight. This will be clips of the real Morrie... he used to talk on "Nightline." Watch if you can... Guest guest
Hi Dharma, I watched the last 15-20 minutes of this movie with my 14 year old son (Alex). I had just tried to get him to go to sleep, as he has school (high school) on Monday am. I cried. The message of this movie is so close to what I've been exploring/talking about. I didn't know Morrie was a "real" person. Alex's comment at the end of the movie was "And you wanted me to go to bed before the end of the movie!" I'm glad he convinced me to watch the end with him. He's quite the character - but a very sensitive soul. Anyway, I was moved to write. Thanks for passing the hungersite info on! peace, Lynne
