Guest guest
Hi Harshji!! You are a man of great wisdom, and yes Ashoka is a good on line friend of mine but I have not seen him lately. Maybe he and i will make a surprise visit to your summer retreat. To me Athiesm means no blief in any Supreme Being (let us call him God). If one is an Agnostic, then it means that he (or she) does not KNOW whether God exists. I do not understand Buddhism very well, but I do know that after Buddha mediated for several years, he received some type of enlightenment. Enlightenment from where and from who??? It is my belfief that there is no such thing as a permanent Athiest. Even those who consider themselves true Athiests must wonder, when on their death bed, what will happen to them after death, and where they will go. They are likely to at least question their long term beleifs about being Athiests. They are likely to ask: What if there IS a God? I guess the poiont I am making is that even die hard athiests probably die as Agnostics at the very least! fI have made this argument to my other athiests friends, and they do not like it. Their come back is: " Did you conduct a survey of all the athiests in their death bed?? LOL.No i did not. I am simply going on the basis that even Athiests are humans! I would like to hrear motre fdrom the athiests members in this group. Best Wishes Nav

Wishing you and your family a wonderful and prosperous new year and great joy, freedom, and peace. Glad to have you here. You speak so rarely but always raise interesting issues. Just like Ashoka. I know he is your buddy! Your question about atheism is a good one. Are you aware that Jains and Buddhists are considered atheists by many Hindus? What exactly is your definition or perception of atheism? Perhaps you can clarify. I have always been oblivious to this whole topic and have never been able to make these distinctions. When I started studying with Chitrabhanuji in the 1970s, it never occurred to me that he might be considered an atheist by some Hindus or that he was a Jain, etc. Also if I recall, Andrew (our resident divine atheist) responded to your question. He is the best! and Jan and David did as well. Perhaps they covered the same ground. Still catching up with e-mail here. Love Harsha

Yesterday he was teaching me to sauté onions and tomatoes with various indian herbs before adding them to the lentils. He has been helping me improve my cooking. Every time, my dishes get a rating. For a few months, on a scale of 10, I have usually gotten between -2 and positive 4 from Ashoka. This guy is not easy to please. No wonder, he has been divorced 5 times. He is still on good terms with his third wife, who was here yesterday as well. Yesterday, for the very first time, he gave me an 7.5 out of 10 on a dal dish I spent most of the day preparing. I was astonished. He said, it could have been an 8.5 out of 10, if I had added a little more salt. Anyway, I am tired of peeling onions because they make me weep. "These are tears of joy Harsha," Ashoka tells me. I don't know about that, but I am learning a lot and spending lot of time splashing cold water on my face and eyes. Anyway, Ashoka is again out of town for a while, so I can take a little breather. Love to all Harsha
