Guest guest
The Star, The Mother, The Flow of life, the firmament separating water, something like that... "Hope, says an anonymous man, is the bearer of the agent of growth in spiritual evolution. It acts in the sphere situated above consciousness, whilst the agent of growth in evolution acts in the sphere beneath it (cf. Genesis i, 7 concerning the "waters above the firmament" and the "waters under the firmament"). This is why the Card of the seventeenth arcanum of the Tarot represents the woman, the maternal principle, between the constellation of hope above her and the flow of continuity of biological life beneath her. Because every mother professes a double faith - the faith of celestial hope that the future will be more glorious than the present and the faith of terrestrial continuity that the flow of succeeding generations will go _foward_ - in the direction indicated by hope from above. Every mother knows - insofar as she is a mother - that underlying the flow of generations there is at work the primordial magical impulse of the effective cause ("the Alpha") of the world and that the final cause ("the Omega") of the world will not fail to direct it and draw it towards itself. In other words, each mother professes - by the very act that she is a mother - the divine origin of the world and the divine aim of the world. If this where not so, she would refuse to give birth, i.e. to give birth to children who otherwise would be destined to be the the victims of absurdity. Therefore, we could also name the seventeenth Arcanum the "Arcanum of the Mother" or the "Arcanum of Eve" (or, why not?, the body of no body in a Dan connotation). In her are actively present, simultaneously, the intuition of celestial hope and the primordial magic of the benediction of the creator." "I am the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation xxi, 6) - this is how the message of the central star of the card of the seventeenth Arcanum of the Tarot read - which means to say, "I am activity, the effective cause, who set all in motion; and I am contemplation, the final cause, who draws towards himself all that which is a movement. I am primordial action; and I am eternal waiting - for all to arrive where I am." Antoine
Guest guest
Hello Antoine: What an interesting perspective on the Star. I've never thought of this card as a 'female' card though I have seen the card depicted as the Goddess Inanna. To me this card has always represented the light that we discover within ourselves after the falling of the Tower....nothing is left externally so one at that points finds the light of life within the self. However, I can easily see the connection to the mother/creative principal of life. On a numerological level 17 equals 8 which is considered the 'pranic body' and of course, prana is behind all manifestation and mothers are also behind every physical creation/manifestation. It is always comforting to see how all systems eventually teach the same truths.
