> Very nice, thanks, Harsha,

I have a question (purely intellectual and theoretical but I find this to be

the foundation to contemplation)

I was reading my tattered copy of "I Am That" Talks with Sri Nisargadatta

Maharaj. Of course, these dialogues are intended to point attention back

into one's own experience, not encourage yet more discursive

thinking......BUT, on page 478 the questioner asks..

Q: In the Rigveda there is mention of the "adhi yoga" the Primordial Yoga,

consisting of the marriage of "pragna" with Prana, which I understand, means

the bringing together of wisdom and life. Would you say it means also the

union of Dharma and Karma, righteousness and action?

M: Yes, provided by righteousness you mean harmony with one's true nature

and by action - only unselfish and desireless action. In "adhi yoga" life

itself is the Guru and the mind - the disciple. The mind attends to life,

it does not dictate. Life flows naturally and effortlessly and the mind

removes obstacles to its even flow.

Now, the Buddhist insight and the practices of "Dzogchen" is also called

"Ati Yoga." Also, Ati Yoga is the highest level or catagory of the nine

yanas of the Tibetan Nymingma. And as I am a student of what we call

dzogchen Id be very interested to find the references and teaching of "Adhi

yoga" of the Rigveda, if someone could point me toward this.

In Dzogchen, all various kinds of conceptuality, alternating stillness and

occurrence within the mind, are seen as not other than expressions of the

Primordial ground - and thus we have "yoga" or union, also, then nothing

arising in the mind "can be an obstacle to its even flow."

Still, the Buddha taught "Anatma" - and that there was nothing fixed or

unchanging. The relative self is seen as dynamic and interconnected with the

relative selves of "others." I particularily like the teaching that life

itself is Guru and mind the disciple as then we can see Life as wise and

compassionate asnd loving - or at least mind can be awakened to this. "Guru"

or life...and "disciple' or mind - are not two - they are One.

Thanks Joyce for bringing this up. I think what Nisargadatta says makes

sense in the context of the question asked. The marriage of Pragna and Prana

could also be symbolically viewed as the marriage of Shiva and Shakti or the

Male principle with the female principle, etc. From the perspective of

Shakti Yoga, after the consummation is completed no more questions can arise

about Dharma, Karma, Righteousness and action. So in a way, all paths

ultimately become Adhi yoga or Ati yoga :--).
