12. My Self

==============================================

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
``````````

There is but one Path of Life,

Though many and sundry are the vehicles

That travel its Singular Way.

Each Traveler has a Singular goal, too.

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
```````````

I gave myself to my Beloved,

And He gave me back to me.

He said to me, “Live with it!”

What now will I do with me?

I said, “I will mortify the deeds of my body.

I will humble myself and become a nothing.”

He said, “What can a nothing do with nothing?”

I guess being a nothing is not the answer either.

I said, “I would rather be dead

Than to be seperated from You.”

He replied, “Then kill yourself completely!”

I gave up the ghost of my selfness.

What is the difference between my self

And my Self, the one I really am?

My self wants to be me and only me;

My Self wants to be all things to all people.

My self wants everything done my way,

But I usually wind up getting my ass kicked.

My Self wants everything according to the Plan

Ordained from the beginning of all things.

When my self surrenders its will to my Self

Then he finds his true place in the Plan.

He is part of a wholeness he must honor.

He cannot be seperated from its reality.

To live in seperation and loneliness

Is to live apart from the flow of Life.

It is not the path of the Sages of the Way

But of slaves and those bound in chains.

To be freed of the chains that bind him

Let him be free of the slave master, overlord,

Who instructs him to jump when he says, “Frog!”

One who loves God is worthy of better treatment!

When the chains of humiliation are removed

And one stands naked before his Self,

Who is none less than his Beloved Christ,

The Clothing of Light is given him.

In his chains of bondage and slavery

He was a beaten, broken derelict

Whose body was bruised and battered

By the whips of neglect and uncaring abuse.

He had no dignity left, no pride in himself;

But he felt the pain of emptiness, unending.

Then his little self looked up and saw for the first time

The True Self, Christ, reaching down to him.

He could barely lift his arms upward,

But by an act of sheer will and desperation

He reached upward, and the Hand of Compassion

Clasp his wrist and would not let go.

As Jeremiah was lifted out of the slime pit,

He was lifted out of his bondage.

Light shined on the nakedness of his body,

Which he had never been able to see before.

He was ashamed and self conscious because

He was seen for what he had become;

Yet still, he knew not what he truly was.

Love Unconditional bathed him in Compassion.

Then the True Self appeared before him

And revealed to him what he was and who;

That he had a purpose to fulfill in the Scheme

Of the Divine Plan for all Creation!

I know this, for I am the one

Who sold his soul for a piddle of pods.

My self could not cope with the hylic shuffle;

A Higher Force was needed, in truth.

Namaste,

~ Charles
