Yes, I believe you understand what I am trying to say Rob. The imbalances

and changes that occur in consciousness sometimes can shatter the self image

of an individual on the path. Sometimes such changes can lead one to the

spiritual path as well. It might be viewed by the person as if his/her

consciousness itself has been poisoned. A difficult situation indeed!

Perhaps this is called the dark night of the soul. It can last for a long

time. If I recall, Siva after drinking the poison remain unharmed but his

body turned blue. Sometimes, what appears to be poison at first turns out to

be Amrit (Nectar) in the end.
