Hi ! Like Gill I too thought I had a kink in my psyche for a long time, it came back and back no matter how hard I tried to resolve it or work through issues in the external life. I called it "My Self Destructive Feeling", and it wasn't really depression per se. It was an energy vortex, it was where the life energy had gotten stuck and was trying to get moving again. It was also the will of Kundalini, a seat of primal energy. So I do see your perspective. Love, Amanda. Guest guest
Hello Gill: Here is the pranayama: ....Sit in a comfortable posture with the spine straight ....Extend both arms straight out from heart center level parallel to the ground ....Close your RIGHT hand into a fist ....Wrap your LEFT hand around the fist ....The thumbs will be touching side by side and extended straight up ....Focus your eyes on the thumbs ....Inhale through the nose for 5 seconds ....Exhale through the nose for 5 seconds ....Hold the breath out (ie., not breathing) for 15 seconds ....Begin the cycle of inhaling, exhaling, holding again. ....Start with 3-5 minutes and build up until you can do it for 11 minutes. ....Should be done for at least 40 consecutive days. Your arms will definitely hurt at times during this. I can remember wanting to scream or something at times. The exercise lightened me up from the very beginning but if I remember correctly I took a break after the first 40 days and the second time I did this it was for a 90 day cycle and within that cycle was when something shifted that stayed with me. I hope that you can begin to work with and trust pranayama as it is extremely effective in working with those states of mind that keep us locked in 'mud'. For instance, generally one of our nostrils will be more open for breathing than the other. If we can shift the breath to moving freely from the more closed nostril we can experience a change in mood. I agree with you that yoga and meditation is preferable to taking drugs if that is possible. Sometimes, it is important to prepare the body and mind for meditation otherwise meditation can become frustrating or even will emphasize the depression rather than move us beyond it. This exercise can help us move beyond. Good luck. Namaste, Linda > >Hi Linda,>Thanks for this; I'll try the two >positions you suggest. What was the >pranayama? Guest guest
Hi Linda, Just had my first go at this. I find the pain in my arms nicely distracts me from the difficulty of not breathing for fifteen seconds And I do feel a bit better, though at this early stage that could be placebo effect. I'll keep at it... Thank you, gill > Hello Gill: > > Here is the pranayama: <snip>
