I believe what Kundalini-Shakti is turning the mind towards is itself, to become more aware of the still center of consciousness. Turning towards the still center is difficult, especially when Kundalini makes desires more overt for the conscious mind. But maybe, as some ppl have mentioned, making the desires more overt helps the mind to look and go beyond them. >I tend to see and feel the whole kundalini-shebang as a biological and >neurophysiological process of evolution According to the Bentov article, it is a synchronization of the central nervous system, the spinal cord and brain, with the aortic rythm. I don't know about that but it is something I consider every day. Personally, I also believe the process represents an increase in the number of nerve impulses from the body to the brain (afferent impulses) that become visible for the conscious mind (cortex). >but in essence it's very much a natural >phenomenon of life operating through the physical body, much like orgasm >during sex (which is closely linked to kundalini, btw.) or the inherent drive >for self-preservation and security for instance. The Indian traditions speak of several down ward and upward directed energies, as well as the energies responsible for sneezing, yawning, vomiting etc. These last are movements that are reflexive movements travelling from the body to the brain via the vagus nerve in the spinal body. I am sure there is a neurobiological explanation here somewhere that is in accordance with the Indian traditions, at least in part... "Auto psychotherapy", I liked that term. Kind of like a healing process performed by the body itself. >release of deeply seated neuro-muscular patterns within the body. In exceptionally lucid moments, I take these movements to be attempts of synchronization of the motor cortex of the brain which controls voluntary muscular movements with the 7 hz aorta rythm mentioned in the Bentov article. But that's just me. >I've become convinced, that there's often a lot of truth in many of the old >traditions and what superficially seems like superstitious BS might in fact >contain a grain of reality. I find the same to be true. It is always extremely interesting to read the old scriptures, as I find that they are pretty spot on in their descriptions of the process, when one get used to the symbolism. It is clear the scriptures are based on experiences. >The recognition of this causal relationship has then probably been passed >down through the ages and becomes part of a religious tradition and teaching, Yes, many aspects of traditions seem to be emulating the process as it manifests, before they naturally occur, in a way, that acting in a certain manner will ensure that one will feel this way before too long, such as the question of celibacy.
