Keeps the NDS exotic for me Attempted definitions: bhakti: Bhakti is the path of love / devotion. The individual 'self' disappears into the expansive sea of Love. It's a way of loosing the limited self in expansive feeling. neti-neti: literally "not this - not this". It's the meditation style of discrimination/discernment also called Jyana Yoga which is more of a contraction than an expansion. "not this" happens when the silent inner intelligence spontaneously recognizes how it has been confined/attached or associated with a thought or emotion. In other words, if you are troubled by some difficulty, you may have a recognition which interrupts the suffering, a recognition that separates you from the difficulty leaving you in relative stillness freed from the false association. This can develop into an all the time natural & effortless vigilance which smothers/destroys/disassembles the outward movement of the mind into thought & emotion. Into this passionate effortless stillness grace descends, in other words, there is a transformation which occurs, yet the transformation can't be initiated by effort. Thank You, Roger, for the definitions. I find beauty in the rich tradition of The Way. It is like a piece of artwork - each stroke of the brush reveals the majesty of the Whole.
