My impression of Qi gong and the other Chinese Qi arts such as Tai chi is that it is a gentle way of working with the energy, very beautifully flowing... Some paths call themselves the water paths... sounds great. ) For a short time I studied with a Cantonese Kung fu teacher. He taught very forceful punches and kicks, combined with light meditation (which I didn't get at all that time ) and flowing Tai chi exercises. It was a great combination of water and fire, martial arts and healing. Yet he also had some truly horrible exercises. One was a stretching exercise in which he would be squashing me down towards the ground, putting the pelvic area under a great deal of pressure. This was supposed to be combined with deep and slow breathing and this was the only way to get out of the pain of muscles being forcefully stretched. I'm sure the stress of this alone was a way of increasing the chi. Not the best of ways, though. Ouch. >>> Last weekend, I bought " Be as you are - Teachings of Sri Ramana >>> Maharshi" and I find this reading very inspiring and liberating. > >I think this is probably the best short book on Ramana! I agree with that very much. I find his "method" of self enquiry being very interesting and helpful indeed, as is the rest of the book, as you say, very inspiring. Welcome to us, Claude. I do hope you will like it here. Your English is nothing you need to be embarrassed over, it is very good. Love, Amanda.
