What if the year 2000 were a new beginning, an opportunity to turn, all

together, the culture of war and violence into a culture of peace and

non-violence? These are the 6 key pledges of Manifesto 2000.

RESPECT ALL LIFE

respect the life and dignity of every person without discrimination or

prejudice;

REJECT VIOLENCE

practise active non-violence, rejecting violence in all its forms: physical,

sexual, psychological, economical and social, in particular towards the most

deprived and vulnerable such as children and adolescents;

SHARE WITH OTHERS

Share my time and material resources in a spirit of generosity to put an end

to exclusion, injustice and political and economic oppression;

LISTEN TO UNDERSTAND

defend freedom of expression and cultural diversity giving preference always to

dialogue and listening rather than fanaticism, defamation and the rejection of

others;

PRESERVE THE PLANET

promote consumer behaviour that is responsible and development practices that

respect all forms of life and preserve the balance of nature on the planet;

REDISCOVER SOLIDARITY

contribute to the development of my community, with the full participation of

women and respect for democratic principles, in order to create together new

forms of solidarity.

Hello Gloria,

The year 2000 seems to be bringing deep changes on such subtle

grounds

affecting the very core of societies runing by the same calendar.

I love the general idea. Yet, the "reject violence" point, rings to

me, very occidental, colonialist, imperialist even... In this sense,

rejecting violence is it not a form of violence as such?

Well, I didn't word this..but I assume they meant it as the opposite of

violence, seeing all these forms of violence as more than just physical ones

seems a good idea to me. Do you have some "good violence" in mind here? I am not

understanding your point, Antoine, so please say more.

Hello Gloria,

Sorry for not stating my point as well as it could. I will try again.

Maybe this exemple of my reaction may be taken as an exemple in

trying

to express what was tried to be said.

The six point statement for PEACE, opened the door for a form of

violence from my part in stating that an emphasis on REJECTing

VIOLENCE may be an act of violence in itself. General exemple as what

may be said to define colonialism, - as going to colonise non

christian countries known a savage countries in crusade times -, or

going to imperialise countries that are said, by the imperialist

country, not abble to help themselves by themselves, in more modern

times.

Or in a wider way, i am simply saying that by definition, one cannot

fight (Reject) violence. The act of rejection is an act of violence

in

itself. It's a bit like fithing evil or maya, or any other form of

entity. You have to be two to reject, when there is nothing left to

reject as one...

I know that those words where not yours. I saw them in the archives,

so i comment on them. And don't worry i will go and _comment_ them

all

the way to their source, as i wish each one does under the light of

its own consciouness. Maybe it is there the real source for peace for

the homo sapiens... Who knows?
