Terrible evil very definitely exists in the world, for example Hitler,

Stalin and the dark side of Christianity.

 

Ahimsa or "Resist not with evil" refers, I think, to an inner state of

detachment or calmness when faced by challenge. If "resist not with evil"

and ahimsa are seen as a recommendation for in-action, this in-action would

support evil through passive complicity.

 

Pacifism might be cruel when it prevents an appropriate response to the

challenge of negativity.
