As in admiration: I don't play the way he does. To me, >the man was a true musical genius and revolutionary - I deeply suspect that >there was a soft, spiritual spot there somewhere beyond all that biting >cynicism... I reckon. Have you been to his website? (http://www.zappa.com/) There's a good interview with his wife, Gail. She reveals a side of him that I think was much less cynical, if you read between her careful answers. She really sounds like one together person too. In an interview many years ago, he berated the hippies for claiming to love everybody, but being too messed up to do it. That got me thinking about my attitude... > ><I'm a musician, but I don't consider myself professional. I do it because >I'm helplessley in love with it. It embarrasses me to say this, because I'm sure there's many out there reading this who can read music, know their theory and have had proper training. Dharma has been very encouraging, and this has spurred me on to learning the theory, but I've played music by ear for decades, probably because I didn't want to hunker down to the head work when I was younger, I wanted to just play what I could hear in my head. Now I'm being less improvisational and more compositional, and I shall learn my abc's <LOL> His music is so daunting! What gets me is how accessible it is, considering. And his attitude was "nothing is sacred", very Buddhist, imo. > >The poodle bites - arf she said ... ) And Who are the Brain Police? and "...You might not believe this, little fella, but it'll cure your asthma too..." ) > >All the best > For you too Rob >Michael
