:) OK.

Chanting

Dear Satsangh Leader,

I greatly enjoyed the recording of the Arunachala

Shiva chant you sent two days ago.

I found it profoundly beautiful and fascinating,

it was a great joy to hear your voice speak and

sing to us.

Hearing the chant was like seeing the sun

come up over the Ganges river (of course, I have never

actually seen the sun come up over the Ganges

river, but at least, hearing the chant felt like what I

imagine seeing the sun dawn on the Ganges must feel

like. ;) )

I am writing this note as the words have reached

me that you are somewhat unhappy about your voice.

This is something I cannot understand as your voice

carried the chant and most importantly of all, the

meaning of the chant, with great efficency.

It was not difficult to hear the love and devotion

in your voice and the good intention with which you

shared this recording.

Please send more recordings in the future as the

first one was highly appreciated.

Thank you very much for sending.

---- end of note---

>Arunachala Shiva was written by Ramana Maharshi for his devotees. The first

>time I heard someone sing it, I did not know anything about it and was

>literally thunderstruck and did not know what was happening to me. After

>that, whenever the singers came on the stage before the lecture by my

>teacher, I would practically beg them to sing that song.

As Linda said, thank you very much for sharing this

with us. The chant ties well in with the beautiful

story of the professor's change at Arunachala.

I feel quite privileged to be able to hear it.

Also, I very well understand your reaction to

hearing the chant for the first time.

It is beautiful.

I don't know much about Sanskrit chants, but there was

something about the regularity of rythm and

harmony of melody that made me like this a lot.

This is what I intended to say in my first

and rather off hand comment,

but somehow didn't manage to express properly.

Thank you again for sharing with us.

Love,

Amanda.

Hi Linda. Enjoying your posts. You had asked about whether it is

possible through the internet for several people to chant together. I

don't know about that. I do know that everyone can easily send their

voice across like the internet like I did. Perhaps others here will

sing for us.

Harsha

The present delays of the Internet would make singing together more like a canonical work :)

But if the computer is equipped with a soundcard that can

simultaneously play and record wav files, it is possible to simulate

chanting together.
