Yoga Nidra.

Namaste All, Thank you Harsha,

Thank you for sharing. Perhaps you are experiencing

what is sometimes

called

Yoga Nidra. It is said to be deeply restful. It seems

that in deep

relaxation the breath slows done to the extent that it

is not

noticeable.<

Yes, that was my guess as well, for there is no

tossing and turning, it is a complete motionless

state. I use the corpse position for meditation.

At one time I used to 'suffer', from my heart missing

a beat or two, whilst in the normal state. That may

have been stress or kundalini.

Now how do I go to Samadhi and not take the road to

Yoga Nidra, they must be somewhat close. One being

more than deep sleep and the other incorporating all?

That is the question!

Om Namah Sivaya, Tony.

Tony, I believe this question was addressed by Ramana Maharshi several

times. I can't remember the answer now exactly but I know you are familiar

with various books documenting the conversations with the Sage of

Arunachala. It seems like that there is nothing more to do really Tony then

what you are doing. I suppose we can make the environment conducive by

living peacefully and with self-awareness to the extent possible. Study of

scriptures and Satsanga is very helpful. Self-Enquiry and meditating on the

nature of awareness itself is central. One can do that in the Corpse posture

as well and that will eventually lead to Samadhi. Ramana Maharshi said once

that the experience the body is meant to go through are pre-determined.

Perhaps these include various Samadhis as well. There are people who have

great gifts of devotion and can easily surrender to the Divine Will, and

they gain knowledge in that way. The rest of us must plod on the best we

can! (:--).

Love

Harsha

Hi Harsha,

This is probably one of the quotes you were remembering.

It's from page 64 of "The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi"

edited by David Godman. (There's a lot more there than what

I'm reproducing here):

"Without this enquiry he will go into a long trance or deep

sleep [yoga nidra]. Due to the absence of a proper guide at

this stage of spiritual practice, many have been deluded and

fallen a prey to a false sense of liberation and only a few

have managed to reach the goal safely."

(...skip a few paragraphs from the quote, then....)

"One must therefore watch one's spiritual progress carefully.

One must not allow oneself to be overtaken by such spells of

stillness of thought. The moment one experiences this, one must

revive consciousness and enquire within as to who it is who

experiences this stillness. While not allowing any thoughts to

intrude, one must not, at the same time, be overtaken by this

deep sleep [yoga nidra] or self-hypnotism. Though this is a sign

of progress towards the goal, yet it is also the point where the

divergence between the road to liberation and yoga nidra takes

place."

Love,

Rob
