Guest guest
Gee Mark, It feels so great to know you personally now! And by a wonderful synchronicity, I was just listening this evening to the Grateful dead song in which these words appear. The song is Ripple. Did you know that the first three lines you quoted: ( Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Or wind to blow) Are a perfect 17 syllable haiku? I was thinking of this song at the retreat, as Christiana and I watched the ripples on the little pond below the monastery. Here are the complete lyrics: Ripple If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come thru the music, Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken, Perhaps they're better left unsung. I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, If your cup is full may it be again, Let it be known there is a fountain, That was not made by the hands of men. There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. >Mark: >Mmmmmmm.... very nice, Mace (kerplunk) > >...Ripple in still water >When there is no pebble tossed, >Or wind to blow >Reach out your hand >If your cup be empty >If your cup be full, >May it be again... > >(Robert Hunter) >love, Mark > > >Mace Mealer wrote: > > > There's something about > > a still pond > > that begs a pebble. > > > > Mace > > >---------- ><//>/subscri\ be/ > > >All paths go somewhere. Guest guest
Hi David, Isn't it lovely? It's quite interesting to now read posts by the folks at the retreat, knowing how they look, how they move, what their voices sound like, how they laugh, how they respond to looks... Wow! I am so fried this evening, but I can't quit reading posts (nice to see that the list carried on.. 78 new emails when I logged on...) it's like a new toy, or a lovely old toy that one has come to know and love, and some one came along and showed you a new way to see it, to play with it, and maybe you thought the toy was complete and full, and now you see that you weren't even close to playing with it the way it was intended by the toy company. (but of course the way you used to play with it made it richer than the toy company's ideas of how to play with it and knowing how the toy company saw it has now made it richer for you as well.) toy company, toy and little boy all One. Okay, this little boy is going to bed now. I didn't notice that the line is a haiku, and it tickles me pink to know it. Thank you, my new and old friend, Mark David Hodges wrote: > Gee Mark, > It feels so great to know you personally now!
