Guest guest
Dear Wise One's... For many years I have wondered about the relationship between the chakra's and the number of petals assigned to each. Most likely I have tried to put a "western" thought to an "eastern" thought and, therefore, have failed. The "western" thought meaning, Gematria - the magical language. Do anyone know if there is an answer to the above wondering? Smiles... Robert PS - I bought some Beano
Guest guest
Oh NOOOO!!!! I was ENJOYING Kripalu! No petals for you, Robert! (hey Harsha, give him some petals when no one is looking. I don't want this sort of behavior to be seen to be rewarded.) Growing boy indeed! Robert PS - I bought some Beano Hi Robert I don't know anything about Gematria but can give something on the eastern perspective even though there is some controversy on chakras and the petals assigned to them. The differences in various traditions also extend to mantras assigned to different chakras. For example the Hindu and the Jain Mantras assigned to the chakras are different (Similar seed sounds in most cases and both approaches work). The number of petals assigned to a chakra indicates the number of psychic nerves that intersect there. Gopi Krishna claimed that chakras are pure imagination and do not actually exist. This is of course true of everything in the ultimate sense. However, chakras and the number of petals they contain can be seen by yogis practicing various methods. External methods of seeing the chakras involve breathing and retention practices while stimulating the optical nerves and indirectly the nervous system and the activities of brain and the heart. These techniques are usually kept secret as they can arouse the Kundalini Shakti prematurely and cause discomfort and harm when not done properly. Internal methods of seeing the chakras is through pure meditation on the energy centers. In certain Samadhis, due to the activity of the Shakti, the optical nerves are spontaneously stimulated, and one sees one chakra after another and the different petals associated with them. These are not imagination in the usual sense but colorful, intense, and precise visionary experiences appearing in the mind's eye. There are lot of classical works on these matters. Swami Sivananda's book on Kundalini Yoga is quite good. There are many others as well. I wrote an article on Kundalini Yoga some years ago. It might be helpful as well. Guest guest
Hello Robert: There are many theories, beliefs and non-beliefs regarding the chakras and working with the chakras is the basis for some healing systems such as 'shakti healing'. Yogis and other healers claim to be able to see, hear and feel them. Different systems assign different colors to them. For instance, in the West the colors assigned match the colors of the rainbow beginning with red for the 1st and ending with purple for the 7th. However, certain yoga systems assign colors such as black and dark blue while other systems teach that they are different shades of red and yellow. Vedic astrology assigns a planetary ruler to each chakra and assigns color accordingly. These systems all work with the 7 primary chakras that located along the spinal from the base right up to the top of the head. It is believed that there are actually hundreds of chakras existing throughout the body and advanced yoga techniques work with chakras on the face and in the hands. As far as the petals are concerned each of the 7 primary chakras are believed to have a certain number of petals which connect to nerve ganglia. The 1st chakra has 4 petals, the 2nd has 8, the 3rd has 10, the 4th has 12, the 5th 16, the 6th 2 and the 7th 1,000. Each chakra has one basic seed sound that is believed to affect the chakra. A sound is also assigned to each petal of chakras 1 through 6 (there is only 1 sound assigned to chakra 7) the petal sounds are actually the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. The correletation to the petals of the chakras is thought to be the basis for the healing effect of mantras. Chanting the Sanskrit alphabet or the seed sounds of the chakras can be powerful excercises and should be approached carefully and with the guidance of a knowledgble instructor. Linda // All paths go somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Paths, places, sights, perceptions, and indeed all experiences arise from and exist in and subside back into the Space of Awareness. Like waves rising are not different than the ocean, all things arising from Awareness are of the nature of Awareness. Awareness does not come and go but is always Present. It is Home. Home is where the Heart Is. Jnanis know the Heart to be the Finality of Eternal Being. A true devotee relishes in the Truth of Self-Knowledge, spontaneously arising from within into It Self.
