Re: the prayer of the frog - 10

Namaste,

In Sri Ramana's words, forgetting the ego is itself the

greatest austerity [and that is aatma-vichaara]:

ahamapetaka.n nijavibaanakam.h .

mahadida.n tapo ramaNavaagiyam.h .. 30.. [upadeshasaaram.h .]

Regards,

Yes, the highest of all austerities is that of self-awareness.

Sri Ramana pointed out many times that all spiritual practices, other than

direct self-awareness, presuppose the retention of the mind.

In most spiritual practices, Consciousness is expressed with a particular

focus (as through mantra, meditation on chakras) and redirected at itself

for completion (by its own inherent Shakti) at the ending stage for

Self-Realization.

In Self-Enquiry and Self-Awareness, Consciousness from the very beginning

acts as its own support, falls upon itself only, scanning itself, both as

the subject and the object, the observer and the observed. This is the

beauty of the direct approach. If one understands and appreciates the

finality of Self-Enquiry, all other austerities become irrelevant.

Love to all

Harsha
