A fwd from Bhagavan list.

Animal Tails

>From time to time people would bring abandoned baby animals from the surrounding

forest to Bhagavan.

On one occasion a young deer, which was given the name 'Valli', was brought.

This deer became extremely devoted to Bhagavan and followed Him wherever He

went.

One day when she had grown up she disappeared for a few days and upon returning

she appeared to have a limp. Although Bhagavan lovingly attended to her wounded

leg, she became ill shortly after. On her last day Bhagavan sat with her head

resting on His lap throughout the night, stroking and comforting her all the

while. Despite repeated efforts by devotees to coax Bhagavan to retire and leave

the nursing to someone else, Bhagavan continued to minister to the deer.

After midnight, Bhagavan got up from where He sat and returned to His couch.

Valli had attained mukti at the hands of Bhagavan, Lord of Compassion.

(adapted from Moments Remembered, Reminiscences of Bhagavan Ramana, available

from Sri Ramanasramam)

paths go somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Paths, places, sights,

perceptions, and indeed all experiences arise from and exist in and

subside back into the Space of Awareness. Like waves rising are not

different than the ocean, all things arising from Awareness are of

the nature of Awareness. Awareness does not come and go but is always

Present. It is Home. Home is where the Heart Is. Jnanis know the Heart

to be the Finality of Eternal Being. A true devotee relishes in the

Truth of Self-Knowledge, spontaneously arising from within into It

Thank you for the story on Valli,

Like Valhalla? <g> Deer are my favorite animals, beautiful, quiet, gentle

and graceful ... i was lucky to photograph the deer who live in the woods

behind my house this summer, eating all my lilies :-)

I'll upload the photos as soon as the film is developed...

Love,
