Guest guest
Jim was awakened by something wet on his face, and as he sat up he realized that it was rain! Blessed rain was pouring out of a darkened sky in torrents, and as he sat there in Kate's bluebonnet patch, with that glorious rain washing the dust from his face, he smiled, knowing he had something important to do. In a few days, as soon as the ground was dry enough, he plowed the whole farm under, including Kate's patch, then went down to the cotton gin to find Herb Miller and do some business. You see Herb's oldest boy Frank had just married Mary Beth Simmons and they were looking for a place to farm, but the big corporate farms were buying up most of what was available, making it tough to find a place of their own. Jim cut Frank a deal on buying the farm and within the month Frank and Mary Beth were ready to move in. About this time, as Jim was showin Frank the particulars of the place, he asked Frank to come over to his truck where he had a sack of seed, and made some suggestions about a certain half acre that could be seen out the kitchen window of the farmhouse. Not long after that Jim finished loading up his truck and took off for parts unknown, didn't seem to worry folks much, they had rarely seen a man as contented with his lot in life and happy with the prospect of a journey. That next Spring Frank saw Mary Beth standing at the kitchen window crying, and when he asked her what was wrong, she looked at him with with big tear-filled brown eyes, took him in her arms, kissed him, and whispered in his ear, " I just love those bluebonnets, and I love you for putting them there for me."
