Guest guest
CC: MariaVan (note: Glo, if Mark says yes, you should come and visit and meet them this week!) Dear Annette, We are writing to you on behalf of the Global Peace Walk 2000. This is a cross country walk on the United Nations 55th Anniversary to Develop Spiritually United Nations. We are concerned about our future and our human life. We are carrying a Future Generations' Prayer for Global Peace Now. The initiator of this walk, Reverend Yusen Yamato, a Japanese Zen Buddhist, has been carrying this prayer for Global Peace Now for over 25 years. We are walking to restore a spiritual relationship between our human life and the natural environment, with the earth, the water, the fire, the air. Some of the most profound and eloquent, yet rarely consulted, spokespeople for sustainability and peace are traditional indigenous spiritual leaders. This Thursday, October 12th, is Indigenous Peoples' Day 2000 and on this day eight Traditional Chiefs are traveling to Washington, D.C. This is a most historic moment and we are arranging for two press conferences and meetings with Congress and the White House. There is also the first session of a Spiritual Environmental Summit that will culminate at the UN on its 55th. We have been asked to pay for 4 plane tickets and gas money for the rest. We also need to provide food. Then we are continuing to walk up the East Coast and holding five other sessions of the Summit and taking care of other elders. Also we have been walking for 8 months now and even our reserves are basically tapped. We have been working with Gerry Eitner from the Earth Center for Peace. Gerry recently organized three events for peace: at the Capitol, the Masonic Temple, and the Pentagon. These Chiefs will be also speaking to endorse the One Day in Peace Project, the bill currently in Congress that will establish an international day of peace and sharing every January 1 of every year. We are planning a press conference with these Chiefs on Thursday at both Congress and the White House. We are asking for your help to accommodate six Chiefs but possibly eight at the Manor House at Airlie for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week (October 10-12). The status of these people and the medicine that they are carrying necessitates each to have a separate room. We are requesting this as a donation. We are a tax-deductible 501©3 nonprofit. The Chiefs coming are: Chief Leonard Crow Dog of Lakota - recognized spiritual leader of 260 tribes from South Amer. to Canada Chief John Crow Dog of Lakota Chief Oscar Marino from Mexico Chief Luciano Perez from California Chief Richard Grimes Chief Norman Tully of Dineh Navajo Chief Arvol Looking Horse - 19th generation carrier of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Chief Jacob Sanderson of Cree Nation If you have any questions please call.
