I wonder about giving the mind something to do to keep it busy without the obsessing or grasping part. I remember once putting together a huge lotus model of a business and I had to keep my attention or I would get circular arguments when I hit the enter key. It seemed that I was somewhat free when my mind was occupied. Marcia What you say makes sense Marcia. I suspect many religions and traditions make use of that in terms of prayers and incantations. Certain techniques of meditation involving mantra and visualizations do that as well. Students are advised to practice without getting frustrated or grasping. At some point, the method appears to become magical and visions and deities start to appear in consciousness. Sometimes Consciousness Recognizes itself as Awareness, from which all things appear to rise. Love to all Harsh

Can this appear in whatever belief system the individual adheres too? Love, Robert // All paths go somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Guest guest
Namaste All, Constant visualising and chanting imprints the image at the neural level. At this point it is a sign or image not consciously created by the mind. I think the Buddhists call it the counterpart sign. It is useful to some people for concentration, or a god figure.
