Soon after my birth an astrologer had a look at my birth chart and announced that this boy would become a sannyasi. This statement did not go well with both my parents and grandparents who would have none of that, and sent the astrologer on his way. Although the astrologer did leave, he challenged that if what he had predicted did not happen, he would give up astrology for all time.
As a child, my interests revolved around all things mythological and I would relish the stories of Rama and Krishna narrated to me, but in all other aspects acted as a normal child would. I was tolerably good at school and made decent grades. I loved to play on the streets and had a gang of friends with whom I would play cricket.

There was nothing in my childhood life to suggest what the astrologer said would come to pass.
Till I was thirteen years old, I used to travel to my grandparents house in Yercaud (Tamil Nadu) each holiday, and used to spend my time picking fruits from the numerous guava trees that dotted our garden. The house was situated on a large piece of land with numerous fruit bearing trees, bee hives and roses, which held all of my attention during my visits there. My grandparents doted upon me, as I was the first grand child in the family, and the son of my grandfather’s third son. What ever I wished for was bought; what ever I asked for was given.
One of those years when I was at Yercaud, I had an acute pain in my stomach, which got worse as time passed. The doctor who was consulted suspected it to be appendicitis and asked for me to be immediately shifted to Salem for medical attention. This was a time when hospitals in Yercaud used to be very basic, without good facilities, and one had to travel down hill even for emergencies. It was during this time that a helpful gentleman, Mr. Mathew, took me in his car down hill and admitted me to a hospital. By the time I was admitted, the appendix had been fully infected and had burst. The doctors were worried and had to perform an emergency appendectomy. It was during this time that my father prayed to Lord Ayyappa, that he would bring me to his temple the following year, and prayed for my life to be saved.
The next year, one day my father came to me with a thulasi mala and announced that I would accompany him to Sabarimala that year. The forty five days of following the vows that go with a visit to Sabarimala was my first experience of a sattvic life. I loved the daily pujas and would insist on doing them myself. For many years this continued and it was an enjoyable period of time for me.
During the year 1991, my father was in search of a guru and had met a man who exuded all divine qualities. He accepted this person as his guru and was regularly visiting him. Although we used to hear stories about this godly person from my father and the miraculous powers he exhibited, I never had a chance to meet him in person. After a few months, my father’s Guru was leaving for Mt. Kailash, and I too accompanied my father to see him off.
The moment I met him I felt that I had known him for eternity, and seeing him was the most natural thing to do. He immediately put me at ease and lovingly put his hand on me. Although I did not understand then, it was the defining moment of my life, which was about to change me forever. On his return, I used to visit him regularly and began to be interested in spirituality. My guru had traveled the length and breadth of the country and had visited many spiritual giants. He had visited the forests of Mahendragiri and had meditated there. A spiritual powerhouse, my Guru drew me in and showed me the play of the divine.
Being an inquisitive teenager, I used to question him and doubt many of the things he said. My guru was the type who demonstrated more and preached less. So one day, I asked him what is meditation and how does one do meditation? He answered me by placing his finger on my forehead between my eyebrows and that very instant, I went blank. No thoughts, and I could feel the energy pouring into me like a raging torrent. My entire body was buzzing and my head felt light. In an instant he not only answered my question, but set in motion a life long yearning for the divine.
After this incident, I used to have visions with regularity. One day during a public function, I was standing in a corner watching my guru dance. Then suddenly, I saw bright discs of light like a spinning saucer leaving the finger tips of my guru and entering the heads of some of the people in the audience. It was like watching a fireworks show, but the difference being, I was in a hall and there were no pyrotechnics.
Thus began my lifelong relationship with God, without which life has no meaning.

Now it is clear that seekers will get their guru when time is ripened and the seed is ready guru will guide the growth and that need not be by chsnging into Kashaya doing a Sanyaysin . As rightly said yo can be a water bubble on lotus leaf and do service to lord and reach him.
Thank you for this lovely article and it makes much sense to me as I traverse this life in search of greater truths.
Your message is far more profound and will liberate may on their journey such as yours.
Lakshmi
Can you give me your Guru’s name and how I can reach him ? I am looking for a Guru and yet to find a true one.
This is an inspiring account on many levels. As an astrologer myself, I am glad your parents’ astrologer was right! And the stories of your guru’s spiritual powers are helpful to me.
Thank you Hugh. Spiritual power that touches the spirit is the real power and that is possible only for the person who lives as the self.
Nice article. Could you let me know more about your GuruJi.
As it seems a very good experience.
The information about the Guru may please be sent to the seeker like me
If no problem please send to me the contact details.
Dr. Narayanan
Dear all, the guru will appear when he chooses to. He is none other than divinity himself. As my guru says. “If your search is true, verily in truth you will reach.”
this is need to everyone
A very good article indicating the grace of a Guru.
I am impressed.
Wonderful Article! I guess I got my calling when i was a child too. I use to have talks with God as if God is my friend and even use to scold or show anger sometimes too. I have often being criticized for only seeing good things in others and being too good to live in this society. My lack of interest in Jewelry and good clothes have always offended by my parents too. However, I have never wanted to be a Sanyasini but like to be known as a good human being.
This is an excellent account of the experience with divinity and inspires us to search for Guru who will initiate us to the spiritual path of self learning and service to humanity.
Excellent
Excellent
I read this with interest. can i know who your guru is. I want to be a good human being but i find this world fails to see it.
srinivasan
Hi Srinivasan,
I am sorry if I sound unduly idealistic but you are being Good for yourself, your ‘own’ Good. It has nothing to do with others & the least if others ‘see’ it or not.
But anticipating others to ‘see’ it or ‘acknowledge’ it your are giving a shade to Goodness & then it is no longer Goodness but a Trait of a Characteristic which is no different from the many other Characteristics you have.
Just continue being Good! The Lord says in The Bhagwat Geeta, Na Mey Bhakta Pranashyati….! HIS Devotee can never be destroyed, Being Good or Doing Goosis one of he ways of Being HIS Devotee, HIS Instrument!
Best wishes.
I totally agree with you…
no matter how good you try to be for others you’ll be never be good enough or even just plain old good as the term GOOD is subjective to every single one of us…
Be good for yourself and you’ll be doing justice to yourself, God and the world as you are being true to yourself and God.
divinity being subjective factor is always associated with occurance of miracles particularly when the disciple co-relates it to a personality called “the Guru”. Divinity or Spirituality is not something which is beyond the realm of mind or existence inferring it to be special thing. Freedom from ignorance & knowledge is realization, the Self is not a supernatural thing; it is your own reflection without attributes.
Hi, to everyone this web site really excellent with so much to learn about Hinduism.
Who is your Guru ?
Did you have divine visions of the Lord?

One of the ways to search for the meaning is one has to MEDITATE.
Inspiring. With some knowledge of Astrology, I am not surprised by the prediction of the astrologer. Where is the author based at and who and where is his guru?

Importance of Guru has been mentioned in old Hindu literature. To find real guru is a tough job but if find it changes all aspects of life in positive manner. I personally believe in that all should respect their respective Gurus and their parents too who tell us the importance of guru after which we start searching a real guru.
sir,
Iam verymuch interested to meet such guru to meet in person for spirituality. will you pleat guideme
ramaprabhu
To have a real guru is an important aspect of life. It is also mentioned in old hindu literature that without guru one can not get divine experience and knowledge. We should respect our parents too who are responsible to give us the basic knowledge about a guru and religion. If our parents would not tell us the importance of guru, we never start searching a real guru. Always respect your respective gurus as well as parents.
sir, the article is excellent. I am also searching for such a guru, I request you to give me details of who is the guru and where I can meet him.please the mention the name of the author and where he will be available to meet in person.
it is very much inspirative . Iam also interested in this type of situation
very interesting & excellent article
The part about sattvic life is good.
What a gift it is, in knowing your destiny, being foretold.
What a blessing to meet a REAL Guru!
This let’s me know, that I will meet my Guru, by just breathing, believing & being.
Fancinating. That makes me believe in GOD
Very inspiring indeed. Reading this article makes me want to know of the author’s further experiences.
Guru’s Grace is immense and infinite. and very few people are lucky enough to have it. you are one of the few lucky ones.
Inspiring. I too have lot of inclination towards spirituality and seeking for one who would guid me through. Can you point me in right direction
GURU IS ONE WHO REMOVES THE DARKNESS FROM OUR MIND AND ENLIGHTEN THE SOUL. THIS ARTICLE PROVE THIS IDEAL
Good Article!! It is true that the Sadguru comes walking to you when the time comes. It is not a relationship of just one birth. He has been with you for many births now. If you have not met your Sadguru yet, just pray and pray and pray with utmost sincerity, for Him to come to you fast and not make you wait further…
I met my Master at the tender age of 8 when I never knew the meaning of the word Guru. But now I know the thread just continued in this birth too. I might have spent sleepless, tears filled nights in my earlier births crying for my Guru, I am happy I met Him early in this birth… I realized it…and enjoyed every moment of His prescence. There is nothing in this world which will bring about so much of Bliss and contentment compared to the Sadguru Sannidhi.
I am Quite impressed. I am also in searh of satguru just mentioned in the article .
good one..Please can you let us know the name of your guruji
Well written, affirms that life is meaningless without bhakti.I also believe that God also speaks through ordinary mortals – when it comes to guiding, protecting or resolving…And thats when faith is instilled further
I am also yearning to get a Guru for initiation/spiritual awakening.Could the writer give me the contact details of the Guru please
vaidyanathan
Beautiful article..and it came to me in my difficult times when i’m earnestly searching for a Guru who would bless me and give me the same divine experiences as the author has experienced.Gurus like the one mentioned are so rare in this Kaliyuga…i wish i’m as lucky as the author.
Great Article. I too need the services of a Guru to discover myself. Even though I do prayers regularly, I feel there is something lacking in me to transcend. I believe that along with living life as a normal human being, we can become enlightened to the god in oneself and all others.
Nice to read this article. Now a days the self made Guru’s are every where, but to get the spiritually qualified Guru is not only difficult but also rear.Only lucky persons get the spiritual Guru by chance. It is not commodity which can be purchased from the market.Guru is driving force for his disciple and make him sound in achieving the spiritual goal
Article is really inspiring..very sweet. Share more expirience. I think you have quality of right way of communication.
When I was reading about disks disapearing in heads of people that reminded me about dream I was told by one lady who is practising Sahaja Yoga meditation for many years already..I have met her in India spring this year in Noida. She sow from the distance crowd of rakshasas and demons rushing very angry in her direction, with weapons and red eyes. When she looked on ground she sow blue feets of someone standing next to her and when she looked up she sow her Guruji,Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. Then Shri Mataji raised her right finger and that very moment round light appeared around her finger like Sudarshana chakra of Bhagavan Shri Vishnu and it was thrown in that crowd and dissapeared in back agya of those demons. Then she did it againe and again..Then Shri Mataji addresed to her: “Common, you can do it also !”Then that lady raised her finger and she was amazed that same bright light started turning around her right finger also…After some time many demons who got imbibed those lights suddenly came to normal and started asking for fogiveness and said that they do not know what happend to them ! So those lights came out from dance of your Guru are seems to be transformation powers, which transforms consiosness of people. That’s exactly what real Guru does and should do.
I have no words to explain my happiness.I want to know more about your guru.

KRISHNADAS
its just great guruji
it is nice to see so many people sincerely searching for a guru. I would suggest people to go to Kanchipuram and visit Kamakoti Peetam and pray in the athistanam of Maha Periava Chandrasekarendra saraswathi. I would also urge people to buy the books on the mutt about devotee’s experience which can really make you addicted to him. You may also visit http://www.kamakoti.org to view some of the articles in tamil and english.
I would also urge you to go to Tiruvannamalai and visit ashrams of Ramana Maharishi, Yogi Ramsuratkumar, Seshadri Swamigal. Learn about them by reading books on them and then visit the ashram and drink in the atmosphere and meditate there. You will find an answer to your search and meet likeminded people which may lead to getting answers in prayers or in your dreams. It all depends on the devotion and earnestness with which we pray.
Dear all, I am humbled by your kind words. The experiences I have are given by Him. The words I write are His, the bliss I enjoy is bhiksha from him. If my guru wants, I will tell you who he is. Please bear with me till I get his permission.
wish everyone in this world was as fortunate as the writer to be blessed with a Guru like him
Why do you require permission from Guruji? You can share his details and let Guruji shower hios blessing to everyone.
GURU is the GRAVITATIONAL FORCE which binds all n this force is responcible for universe to exist N this is responcible for mokhsa too (freedom)…i storongly need a GURU but may be tme has not come to have blessing of a GURU…can you help me in this regards…
right geethu but the fortune matters…
You can with your Guru’s permission disclose name & number. This is the time to get right type of Guru like Mahaperiava and your Guru, as Hindus are misguided by wrong people saying they are genuine Gurus. Hence, you can give right path & right direction for many, what is needed in today’s age. Ofcourse, with your Guru’s blessing only, you can do.
Knowing your Guru’s name is immaterial. You are blessed. Thank you for sharing as we are also blessed in reading it.
It is mentioned in the “Autobiography of a Yogi”, your guru is waiting for you, please prepare yourself as the vessel to receive your guru. They will make it known to you. Self awareness is the start. Hariom
A GURU IS MUST TO MOVE DEVOTIONALLY AND TO GET PARIVARTANA IN REGULAR LIFE.
I am impressed by your article. Very difficult to find right guru as well as right disciple. I will appreciate if you could share details of your guru.
Dear Bala G,
As you can see , only true devotees like us desperately need a real GURU like you mentioned. Please , Please for the benefit of all of us and for the spiritual uplift of us give us your address and phone number so that we can meet him along with you. OR you can give his name and address of course. You’ll be doing a great service towards humanity for us all.
thanks a lot for the nice article.
Please could you share the name of your Guruji
Thanks
Pranam
