Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Char Dham highway development project in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun. PM laid the foundation stone for Char Dham Yatra- an annual pilgrimage to the shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
Earlier in the day, Modi had said that he will visit Devbhoomi Uttarakhand for the inauguration of a key infrastructure project, the Char Dham highway development programme.
In a series of tweets, Modi had said that the Char Dham highway project will lead to creation of over 900 km of roads and tourism will also get a strong boost.
“Adding of bypasses, tunnels, bridges and flyovers will ease travel. Proper slope stabilisation will ensure protection against landslides,” he had said while ensuring uninterrupted all weather safe journey for pilgrims to the four shrines.
The Prime Minister also had said that he will address a public meeting in Dehradun during his Uttarakhand visit.

what non sense! this only means cutting down of more trees, destruction of mountains, hills…why does he want to increase tourism at Char Dham…it is not a tourist place but a place of pilgrimage!!!! has he forgotten the fury of nature in 2013…Clearly the Gods did not want too many “pollution and litter creating Hindus” to visit these heavenly places and we should respect that.
Modi needs to invest in infrastructure, education children’s welfare, a return to the ethics and morals of Mother worship;which means no raping of women or girls. teaching people to use toilets, clean up the ganges end animal ritual slaughter its the people an d only the people.I was terribly disappointed to hear about a huge stone monument costing a fortune put people to work on projects for the people.too bad I’m not on his cabinet. There is a distinct disconnect in India which is spiritually tragic
This is a good step. Tourism doesn’t mean just foreigners from other countries. Within India, I think twice to go on char Dham Yatra, due the arduous transport. I am often left to elements of package tours to visit them. If muslims can be paid for their visits to Mecca, I at least expect to have proper road and transportation facilities to visit the places I want in my country.
Why would some people in India think of environmental and people issues when something is thought to be done on Hindu related works? Why can’t these people use their same mouths to talk of these issues when money is poured on other religious and political stunts? Its time we change this mindset.
Hinduism is the way we lead our life in a Dharmic way. Considering this as a religion these days and millions following this path, certain steps need to be taken for these millions, if law needs to be fair for all.
I admire shri Narendra Modi, for his relentless effort to make Hindus to have a safe piligrimage to Char Dham in Independent India even after 60 yrs of independence which other governments simply ignored it.
I really appreciate the great ideas of Modiji. This facility could have been provided immediately after independence….as it is not completely religious but a basic right to all people who are coming from other countries also.So I definitely admire the project as it will provide a safe journey for everyone….Jai Hind
It is a very good project for all those devotees who wish to visit four dhams safely and enjoy their pilgrimage with peace and tranquility. Good transport facility which suits common man’s wallet should also be made. I wish Shri Narendra Modiji a grand success in his efforts to bring change throu’ development projects.
There are people all over India who for political reason will condemn and abuse everything that Modi does or say.
He tries to clean the country of it corruption and the host of political, some religious and so called “educated elites” attack him.
Do they want to bring back the slavery that started 10 century ago and was glorified the last government.
It is utter foolish step . A person who is genuinely interested in sadhana , who is a sincere sadhaka takes all the trouble of going there . It should not become another holiday resort like many places have already become .Greed for punyam like greed for power , possessions , money should not touch atleast this area .
Very Good Initiative By Our Prime Minister .
Will Help Safe and Very Enjoyable Travel for All Devotees.
