A storm is gathering along the banks of the river Ganges. Emergency calls of ‘dharma yuddha’ are ringing across the akharas of naga sadhus, who have been asked to stand up now to protect the ‘sanatan dharma’ – Hindu religion.
The militant naga sadhus have been tasked with “restoring the lost glory of the religion” that can allegedly be harmed by followers of certain deified figures, like Sai Baba of Shirdi.
Entangled with the war cry is the ‘honour’ of a Shankaracharya who feels Sai Baba is certainly not an incarnation of God. To buttress this view of the Shankaracharya across the Hindu matrix, the akhara leaders have asked all the naga sadhus to assemble in Prayag (Allahabad) and Haridwar. Their target will be to formulate a strategy on “demolishing the belief that Sai Baba was a God.”
The naga sadhus are believed to be in a state of meditation (tapasya) round the year, except during the Shahi Snan in Kumbh. But now they have been asked to take a break from asceticism and get ready for a war to save the religion.
There are about two lakh naga sadhus in the country. Observers say in case the naga sadhus take to the streets, it could be a major law and order problem.
It all began recently when Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, objected to the worship of 19th-century religious figure Sai Baba by the Hindus. Swami Swaroopanand had said Sai Baba of Shirdi was a Muslim and Hindus should not worship him. He had also claimed that Sai Baba was declared a Hindu avatar by those who have been trying to weaken the Hindu religion.
All of it irked hundreds and thousands of Sai Baba’s followers who are now gunning for the Shankaracharya. Swami Swaroopanand’s effigies were burnt, and there have been allegations that his stance will promote enmity between the communities.
Caught in the middle of it is BJP leader and Union minister Uma Bharti, who had supported worshipping Sai Baba. Bharti had even said in Haridwar that she sees the “bhagwat satta” (presence of God) in Sai Baba, much to the chagrin of the Shankaracharya and his supporters.
The Shankaracharya retorted by saying that he used to think Bharti was a follower of Lord Ram, but she actually followed a Muslim and because of that she failed to construct the proposed Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Interestingly, Swami Swaroopanand is known to be a harsh critic of the BJP, PM Narendra Modi and the Ram temple movement. He is perceived to be close to the Congress. His jibes come at a time when the BJP is newly in power.
Meanwhile, Swaroopanand’s anti-Sai Baba stance has been criticised by many. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had said Swaroopanand’s criticism of Sai Baba was unnecessary.
Two days ago, RSS leader Indresh Kumar said in Varanasi that the Shankaracharya shouldn’t interfere into the religious affairs of others.
“I feel that the saints and seers shouldn’t interfere into the affairs of others concerning gods and goddesses,” Kumar had said.
Manath Gyan Das, former chief of Akhara Parishad, said: “It is a non-issue. We cannot stop people from worshipping a particular spiritual guru. But Swaroopanand is creating unnecessary controversy for strange reasons.”
But the Shankaracharya’s supporters are in no mood to relent. They think any attack on their spiritual figurehead – who is revered as a God – is nothing short of an emergency. So, they are counting on the naga sadhus.
Govindanand Brahmchari, secretary of Agni Akhara, said: “There is a religious emergency now and the naga sadhus are expected to take up the job actually assigned by Adi Shanka-racharya who founded the akharas in the eighth century to train the sadhus as protectors of religion. We have asked them to assemble in Prayag and Haridwar.”
Acharya Narendra Giri, secretary of Niranjani Akhara said: “Some of our members have already started removing the idol of Sai Baba from the temples… The disrespect that Sai followers have shown towards the Shankaracharya wouldn’t be ignored. Our weapon-wielding sadhus would soon take up the issue.”
Fakir Who Believed in Unity of Religions
Maharashtra has always been known as the land of seers, but Sai Baba of Shirdi stands out for the simple reason that he was from the 19th century and he was photographed.
Though there are a very few photographs of Sai Baba, the fact that his image could be seen in flesh and blood, unlike the corroborated depictions of other saints, seems to be reassuring for his crores of devotees not just in India but abroad too.
There is no information in details about the birth of Sai Baba. One fine day in 1858, he turned up in Shirdi, about 240km from Mumbai, along with a marriage party, according to the Shri Sai Satcharitra, the biography of the saint written by devotee Govind Dhabolkar alias Hemadpant.
The cavalcade alighted near the Khandoba temple at Shirdi where the priest, on seeing the young fakir, welcomed him as Sai, which means both a saint and master. The name stuck to him from then on.
He dressed as a fakir, resided in a dilapidated mosque, chanted ‘Allah Malik’, and also recited India’s holy scriptures. He talked about Brahma Gyana and the Brahman (not the religion but the embodiment of the Brahma). He cultivated a fire in his abode at the mosque and gave its ashes the udi as prasad to his devotees.
He was so untraditional that he smoked a chillam and on certain occasions, offered to his devotees.
To which religion did Sai Baba belong? Unlike the self-appointed apostles of religion, Sai Baba professed unity of all religions and God as it is evident from his slogan ‘Sabka Malik Ek’.
Hindus refer to him as Sai Nath, as in the yogi belonging to the Nath sect who maintained the tradition of Kundalini awakening through the centuries, while for Muslims he is Sai Baba, an Aulia who had amazing healing powers.
Even before devotees begin flocking to Shirdi to seek his blessings, Dhabolkar in his book has mentioned how Sai Baba shared a good rapport with other saints of those times.
The story of 60 years of Sai Baba’s life at Shirdi is replete with miracles, including instances of healing. However, among the hundreds of miracles one that is well-known is the one where he lights diyas with water instead of oil.
He took samadhi on October 15, 1918.
Today, the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust that runs Sai Baba’s place of worship at Shirdi is mammoth organisation, employing more than 2,200 permanent employees and 4,000 contract employees.
About 38,000 people come for daily worship at Shirdi, while on holidays and special occasions, it is close to a lakh.
A Controversial Seer Who Took Part in Quit India Movement
At 90, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, is mired in controversy for his remark on Sai Baba, a seer revered by people as a God across religions.
Last week, the Shankaracharya described Sai Baba as a Muslim ascetic who could not be worshipped like a Hindu deity. On Sunday, he also taunted Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti to clarify whether she was a Sai or Ram follower.
Perceived to be close to the Congress party, he created a furore in Varanasi, from where Narendra Modi was fighting an election as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. He forced the BJP to drop its ‘Har har Modi, ghar ghar Modi’ slogan in the holy town and expressed serious resentment over the ‘politicisation’ of the sacred mantra, ‘Har har Mahadev’.
Swaroopanand also hit out at Modi during the run-up to the last two phases of the Lok Sabha elections, saying “he could not represent Varanasi that is known for its composite secular culture as Modi oversaw a communal conflagration in Gujarat in 2002”.
Born on September 2, 1924, in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur town, the Shankaracharya’s original name was Pothiram Upadhyay. Leaving home at a tender age of nine, he went about on a pilgrimage where he met and became a disciple of Swami Karpatri alias Hariharananda Sarawati, who, in turn studied under ‘Guru Dev’ Swami Brahmananda Saraswati.
At 19, he joined the Quit India Movement in 1942 and came to be recognised as a revolutionary sadhu. Going back, after Guru Dev’s death in 1953, Swami Shantanand was made the Shankaracharya of the Jyotir Math. However, instead of him, Swaroopanand adopted a different guru called Swami Krishnabodhashram Maharaj, who was also in parallel made the Shankaracharya by Swami Karpatri.
Politics set in with Swaroopanand becoming the chief of the Ramrajya Parishad Party, which was set up by his original guru Swami Karpatri.
By the early 1980s he managed to get the title of the Dwarka Shankaracharya, though sources said he spent most of his time in Varanasi and Madhya Pradesh, where he was born.
A well thought out move by Congress and its stooge, Swarupanand to divide the Hindus. They have nothing better to do now.
Religions never need to be saved, the people need to be saved from their religions. So much conflict in life and in the end for what? For a political stance on God. God is not a politician. Only man is. The only dividing lines there are: they are in the mind. When you divide you get less. This is the intelligence of man. Divided intelligence. Less intelligent. There is no God but God. God is infinite and has manifested infinitely and will continue to manifest infinitely. If the blind wish to fight the blind so be it. Less blind people on the earth. I don’t wish for this to be but it seems to be the way of the un evolved man. Remember the Isa Upanishads /
into a blinding darkness go they who worship action alone.
into an even greater darkness go they who worship meditation.
for it is other than meditation,
it is other than action.
this we have heard from the enlightened ones.
meditation and action —
he who knows these two together,
through action leaves death behind and
through meditation gains immortality.
into a blinding darkness go they who idolize the absolute,
into an even greater darkness go they who dote on the relative.
for it is other than the relative,
it is other than the absolute.
this we have heard from the enlightened ones.
there is no need of any war to decide about worship of sri sai baba. Someone who is nearer to swami swaroopanand ji, if by chance see this message, tell him that if he really want to save sanatana dharma, he should not declare war on worship of sai baba but to declare war on conversion to christianity.
Dwaraka Sankaracharya cannot force people to desist from worshipping Saibaba. It is their faith. These Acharyas still live in eighteenth century and expect people to regard them as un questioned religious heads as times have changed.People do not venerate them unless they are non controversial like the Late Acharya of Kanchi,Sri.ChandrasekarendraSarasvathi
It is so sad that the most intelligent beings in the universe fight over God.
Does not the religion tell us TAT TWAM ASI.?
Let us all be indians and have the privillege to worship who ever we want to. Thanks
provoking hindus to fight in between is not correct. please think how to stop hindus with out entering into other religions to maintain sanatana dharma
he is a congi agent..trying to whip up passions and trying to create problems for Namo!!
He is is Gobbels of Congi guys!!
He wants to bring down Namo Govt throwing the whole nation into Hindu-Muslim conflict
But unfortunately he has touched Hot Rod called Sai!!
He will be given a befitting reply by THE HINDUS–NOT BY MUSLIMS!!
Let us start counting days for Hindus to rise up and take care of Shankaracharya and His Nagas!!
Time has come for Hindus to throw out such Charlatans from Hindu-sanatana Dharama
and establish real Ram Rajya
The worshippers of Saibaba should not be prevented from doing so. However, I differ with the various opinions given above inasmuch that we should not consider Saibaba as an incarnation of any God. Anyone should be free to worship any baba or buwa or yogi but it is unfortunate that people place Saibaba’s photographs alongwith other Gods’ in their homes. This is not quite correct.
If the Shankaracharya is truly worried about weakening of Hindu dharma – then why does he not do something about it at source? It seems funny that he is close to Congress who are doing the most damage to the Hindu Sanatan dharma – it is even thhough that Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul as well as daughter Priyanka (she is married to a Robert) are actually catholic christian but have taken hindu names to fool (Sonia Gandhi is from Italy – where the Catholic church Vatican is based).
I hope the naga sadhus see through this nonsense.
instead of discussin about saibaba, it is better sankaracharya should concentrate on increasing christianity in india whcih is to be stopped immediately
Political mudslinging. Sankaracharya is becoming a pawn in the hands of forces trying to divide Hinduism.
Hindus fighting Hindus ….. similar to Sunnis killing Shias.
What is your level of understanding bharatrane, to declare which is correct and which is not? If you accept Sai as sadguru, you should also accept that “Guru is Brahma, Vishnu, Maheswara, and he is none other than Parabrahma.” People through different means reach their goals. In that process why one has confuse another?
Swamiji is right. One can not creat more God. Saibaba is a saint but not GOD.So we should not build temple except at Shirdi. No one prevents you to worship but we should not build temples.
Congis cannot be so smart (foolish) as they have seen the writing on the wall and know their vulnerability in today’s time. It is a master stroke by Namo to unite the Hindus because Ram temple is on the agenda … And he can claim a penalty shot at Congis goal by crying a deliberate foul … He is one of the sharpest brains in Indian politics today to be understood by common Indian man, who react on emotions than brains
No wonder we are still living in Kali yuga both within and without:(
The only inference one can make is suspicion about the guru Sankaracharya himself. He is a known supporter of the communal & corrupt Congress party and is equally known to be against both BJP & Modi. Sankaracharya has allowed himself to be used by the communal& corrupt Congress. An ingenious plot it is intended to create a difficult issue to damage the immense goodwill that the BJP & Modi enjoy. That in the process it is likely to create division among Hindus is a welcome bonus for the communal & corrupt Congress. The Gandhi clan, who had left Hinduism when Indira Gandhi married a non Hindu ( suspected to be a Muslim), Rajiv married a Christian and Priyanka also married a Christian,is out to damage the Hindu religion by getting Hindus to quarrel. The great religious Guru that Sankaracharya is should understand the plot of the anti Hindu Gandhi clan. Let Hindus stand united.
a sadhu’s job and objective is to meditate and connect with God not to pick up arms and go to war with another religious sect. what kind of “sadhu” is this swaroopanand?
This guy is similar to the Muslim religious leaders who have dabbled in politics. The Muslims have become smarter by throwing out the imams and clergy. This Shankaracharya will also be shown the door by the people. At this stage in his late life he need not rake up a controversy and divide people. We should be happy that people have at least some faith in the existence of the supreme being instead of saying that I am God.
Its obvious that when one finds himself being less worshipped or eulogized, he starts throwing tantrums on others…One should not pass judgements on saints like Sai Baba when Mr Swaroopanand was not even born….or living during his period…Sai Baba’s life is well documented and recorded..One should read Sai Satcharitra to understand Baba. Moreover he was living a life of an ordinary fakir who didnt have anything..Whatever he used to collect in Bhiksha during the day was distributed over his devotees..He was totally detached from the world and was in true sense a saint..Hence my advise to Mr Swaroopanand is to think on how to create a better world and not create hatred and animosity amongst hindus…What will he say about Ayyapa Swamy temple at Sabarimala..It is well known that one of Vavaraswami who was a muslim saint was an ardent devotee of Ayyapa Swamy and his mosque is below Ayyapa temple….I would request all hindus not to heed much to this recent controversy created by Mr Swaroopanand..Let people believe whom they want to…
Best way to defeat such conspiracies and not to get played into the hands of conspirators is to keep calm and to maintain peace and harmony.
A well planned strategy to creat unrest, confusion and devision amongst Hindu community, Swaropanand has ditched the name of Adi Shankaracharya by following a political party and now playing in its hands, secondly he has direct eye on the offerings by people to Sai Baba at Shirdi.
I totally agree with Dhruv Trivedi. The congress crooks with Ihelp from the talian bandits and the criminal arm of the catholic church, are trying to divide the Hindus. They hold Kabir and Sai Baba, though Muslims by birth, as mahatmas.
Hey! Congress to ISA as, do something constructive, for the nation, as you have nothing better to do.
Religious heads should keep away from politics. For millions, Sai Baba is the Guru, the living manifestation of God.Their faith cannot be denigrated. Freedom of worship is the bedrock of Hinduism.
Very sad and deplorable a Swami associated with Sankaracharya Mutt should tend towards political party and try create a rift in Hindu community by bringing in uncalled for comments on Shirdi Saibaba who did not propagate Islam but only emphasized brotherhood of humans- Ok, anyone can differ and follow own path, BUT to not decry others who are believers in some other Saint please; lot of Swamis come under scrutiny with a few found with hidden money and also sensual instincts exposed (true it is much more widely open among others -Christianity in special ; facing the stress of modern living, all humans turn to OWN faith to get relief some way and one should not deny them the right to act as per own belief in some as “super human” being -Good and bad acts will get response from GOD! May Almighty bless all mankind to live in peace as neighbors !!
Godheads and saints should gear up to bring about peace and spirituality among the people in preaching sarva matha dharma which paves way for evolution of any culture. Driving a wedge in the name of religion strips them of any spiritual status they claim to enjoy. Sanathana Dharma is elastic in concept and practice and exhorts people to see siva in every jeeva. Hurting the sentiments of one particular sect is far from humanity, leave alone spirituality.
It is a very childish statement from shankaracharaya math and swoorupanatha Babas life it self shown the answer for that and now there is no need of a contraversy on the subject it is not the time for a Ram Temple but we want our country to be Ayodiya which seems to treat people equally
Sai baba is a Naga Sadhu in fact, who came to safe guard Sanatan dharma. Hope the sadhus are not blind to their own clan…
In Bhagavad Gita , Lord Sri krishna advices that persons who are elevated should not disturb the faith of others rather should elevate them. The Shankaracharya has really created needless controversy but insulting the faith of some people.Hindusism has lot of different philosphies in it and great saints had differnt view. But all differncies were discussed based on philosipical debate and not cheap popoularity or mutual hatred. It is high time the swamji read our scriptures properly.
He is a Shankaracharya? Pathetic! Nothing but politicization. Sai Baba is revered as a mystic by Indians irrespective of religion and Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma only gains out of it. Can’t imagine a sadhu of his stature doesn’t get that- oh dear, what’s the point of all these years of whatever if he doesn’t get what mere mortals like we do? Nothing but going senile at 90 I suppose. Pity! Hope the Naga sadhus shall retain their integrity- would love to continue to respect them.
Let us hear from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna: Srimad Bhagavad Gita As It Is by His Divine Grace Srila AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
Chapter 9, Verse 23.
Whatever a man may sacrifice to other gods, O son of Kunti, is really meant for Me alone, but it is offered without true understanding.
Chapter 9, Verse 24.
I am the only enjoyer and the only object of sacrifice. Those who do not recognize My true transcendental nature fall down.
Chapter 9, Verse 25.
Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; those who worship ancestors go to the ancestors; and those who worship Me will live with Me.
Chapter 9, Verse 29
I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him.
Chapter 7, Verse 21
I am in everyone’s heart as the Supersoul. As soon as one desires to worship the demigods, I make his faith steady so that he can devote himself to some particular deity.
PURPORT by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada
God has given independence to everyone; therefore, if a person desires to have material enjoyment and wants very sincerely to have such facilities from the material demigods, the Supreme Lord, as Supersoul in everyone’s heart, understands and gives facilities to such persons. As the supreme father of all living entities, He does not interfere with their independence, but gives all facilities so that they can fulfill their material desires. Some may ask why the all-powerful God gives facilities to the living entities for enjoying this material world and so lets them fall into the trap of the illusory energy. The answer is that if the Supreme Lord as Supersoul does not give such facilities, then there is no meaning to independence. Therefore He gives everyone full independence–whatever one likes–but His ultimate instruction we find in the Bhagavad-gita: man should give up all other engagements and fully surrender unto Him. That will make man happy.
Both the living entity and the demigods are subordinate to the will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; therefore the living entity cannot worship the demigod by his own desire, nor can the demigod bestow any benediction without the supreme will. As it is said, not a blade of grass moves without the will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Generally, persons who are distressed in the material world go to the demigods, as they are advised in the Vedic literature. A person wanting some particular thing may worship such and such a demigod. For example, a diseased person is recommended to worship the sun-god; a person wanting education may worship the goddess of learning, Sarasvati; and a person wanting a beautiful wife may worship the goddess Uma, the wife of Lord Siva. In this way there are recommendations in the sastras (Vedic scriptures) for different modes of worship of different demigods. And because a particular living entity wants to enjoy a particular material facility, the Lord inspires him with a strong desire to achieve that benediction from that particular demigod, and so he successfully receives the benediction. The particular mode of the devotional attitude of the living entity toward a particular type of demigod is also arranged by the Supreme Lord. The demigods cannot infuse the living entities with such an affinity, but because He is the Supreme Lord or the Supersoul who is present in the heart of all living entities, Krsna gives impetus to man to worship certain demigods. The demigods are actually different parts of the universal body of the Supreme Lord; therefore they have no independence. In the Vedic literature (Taittiriya Upanisad, First Anuvaka) it is stated: “The Supreme Personality of Godhead as Supersoul is also present within the heart of the demigod; therefore He arranges through the demigod to fulfill the desire of the living entity. But both the demigod and the living entity are dependent on the supreme will. They are not independent.”
As Lord Sri Krishna is not envious, we, His parts and parcels, should not be envious, nor support nor encourage the envious, knowing that Lord Krishna is the source of all demigods and saints and it is He alone who gives the faith to worship other than Him and gives the results of that worship.
His ultimate instruction is:
Chapter 18, Verse 66.
Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reaction. Do not fear.
We should devote ourselves to the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna through the chanting of His Holy Names and invite others to so so as well. This will diminish the fires of envy, ignorance, quarreling and hypocrisy so rampant in this age of Kali. Hare Krishna
The so called Sankaracharya has brought down the importance of the peeth of Sankaracharya. His eyes are set against the wealth of other big temples like Tirupathi and Padmanabhans too. Who has given him the powers to compell anybody to follow to his belief? He is no body to decide that the followers of Ram must not bow head to Saibaba or must not take a dip in Ganges. Do the Nagas have bigger power than the Govt? The so called Sankaracharya is now crossing all limits and he need s to be arrested and kept behind bars like the wrethed Asha Ram.
We may see in the life History of Nrusimha Saraswati (one of incarnations Lord Dattatreya), that Lord Hanuman was told to take birth as a Muslim and then instantly Hanuman uttered ‘Alla Maalik’. Perhaps he is known to be now as “Sai Baba’. Sai Baba has been considered one of the great Saints of India, with many miraculous powers. He preached no religion but oneness of humanity and God is Almighty. All Saints are are considered as God and Sai Baba is also worshipped as such. But, Sai Baba, cannot be regarded as a Hindu deity. as there is no Pauraanik (Hindu Scriptural Base). Mantra Shastra has no Sai Baba mantra anywhere. ‘Mantra Drushtaaraas’ (i.e. Only Rishis) can only make mantras. Common people are not authorised to compose Mantras, but Stotra can be composed, in Glory of Saints. He may be worshipped as a Saint, but ‘Agamokta Temple worship’ may not have scriptural sanctions.
Who empowers most respected Swarupanandji to direct people to worship or not to worship a particular saint/deity?? Is it a new system of “Fatwa” introduced and forced upon the Hindu Religion???
I believe that Worship is always a million times better than Warship & True Saints never ever resort to Warship and create hatred among mankind. Instead they always try to maintain religious harmony and brotherhood among people and uphold peace in the society at all the times.
Friends, every thing is all right till now. But my request to all is to think of that situation if any orders were given to sadhus to demolish temples of sai baba and suggest some thing to avoid it.
These days you see the marathon way that Sai Baba’s temples are coming in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. They are situated close to ancient temples(why not mosques, churches?). Why?
Please do not politicize religion. Do not interfere in religion. People have right to choose their own ideals. Why were you silent all these years and now raise voice against Sai Devotees? Being a Spiritual head, please do your spiritual sadhana and do not be a politician.
Mixing Politics with Religion!!!!!!. .This swamiji should read Paramahansa Yoganada’s “Autobiography of a Yogi” and “Sri Sai Satcharitra” or at least late “Kanji Maha Periavar Sri Sandira Sekara Saraswithy Swamigal’s legend to be a Sankarachariaar. God Bless India.
few reflections :
Sadhus are hindus under leadership of Shankaracharya mutt ? Are they hindus ? Who gave this autority to the mutt to talk for all hindus ? If yes does that mean that what we call hinduism is in fact a vishnu cult that dominate a former Shiva dominant cult, more ancient and original to india, that sadhus belong to.
Sadhus send to destroy idols of a muslim tabib, practitioner, deified. What an irony.
It appears to me that less said is better. People of all religion believe s in Baba but not this do called Shankara Charya. He is aged and can not think better at the fag end of his life. There are many institutions for menatally retarded. One bed be reserved for him if he has no place to go. May god give him sane thinking power before his end
It is strange to see a 90 year leader of an organization so deep in the material aspects especially as the head of a mutt established to glorify Adi Sankaracharya’s teachings. Looks like Swami Swaroopananda is still buried deep in Roop and Naam and so maybe he is Swami Roopananda. Good luck to him in ‘waging a war to protect Sanatana Dharma’. Sanatana Dharma has not been protected by such superficial holders and has stood the test of time due to the principles set for all mankind in the vedas, upanishads and puranas. This myopic and selfish attempt will also be defeated not by anyone but the fire of truth and knowledge.
Hindu society takes guidance from the wisdom contained in The VEDAS, PURANAS, ITHIHASAS, DHARMA SASTRAS as per the guidance chain of Jivanmuktas, Mahatmas, VEDIC Scholars, elders etc,..The uniqueness of Hindu society is it’s Guru parampara. Those who attain liberation from All desires are recognized as gyani / wise/ jivanmukta. A wise-man is considered fit to be one’s Guru whom the society ( may be a small group or big Group like Shirdi sai followers) turns to for spiritual guidance. since only a wiseman can recognize another wiseman, technically a commonman ( immersed in avidya ) can not recognize a wiseman. However we all have the ability to recognize a conman. Shirdi sai didn’t aspire for comforts, name or fame . HE was an AApta ( the one who has crossed the need for comforts, name and fame) , HE was NOT A CONMAN . he was well qualified to act as as a spiritual guide. He may or may not be THE BRAHMANDA NAYAKA. He need not attain to BRAHMAM ( PURE CONSCIOUSNESS) to guide the common man. it is like a degree qualified graduate can guide upto highschool. He need not be nobel laureate to be able to guide a primaryschool student.
watch https://www. .com/watch?v=fd8ZSX224W0 to understand INDIRA’S
betrayal of Gandhi’s , Karapatriji Maharaj’s and the hopes of millions to save cows from unnnatural slaughter. Karapatriji was swaroopanand’s guru.
who appointed swaroopanand as shankaracharya of Joshimath. Certainly not Swami Brahmanand Saraswathi ( the previous head of Joshimath) and not Shri Karapatriji Maharaj. He foisted himself on the holy seat with unholy alliance of Congress party. His second mischief is occupying the Dwaraka peeth.
Swaroopanand is unable to recognize a real mahatma Shirdi sai.
He never challenged the deceptions of a fake mahatma (Gandhi) and his political lineage i.e., Nehru. Indira, Rajiv, Sonia. His call to Naga Sadhus to take up arms is a grave crime against genuine Hindu (= secular) values.
So you want Hindu muslim unity but Not Intra Hindu Unity. Otherwise why are you inciting Hindus (Naga Sadhus) against Hindus ( shirdi sai followers). . At the minimum swaroopanand deserves to be boycotted by Hindu society.
I don’t know, Why these People become sahdu’s and peetadhipathi’s., They should know very will about the god, that god is not a body it soul. There is only one god that is only soul.
I am also an Hindu, but i am not against to any god. Sadhu’s and peethadhipathi’s are there to make peace of the world and to follow dharma and to make people follow dharma, not to make war between two religion’s.
Saibaba is a guru. Everybody has their own choice to choose their guru or god to worship. some one choose their guru as a saibab, some one choose veerabrahmam. its up to them. no one has right to stop them. He might be hindu or muslim, we can worship as guru or god. its people wish not peetadhipathi’s or sadhu’s,
I think these sadhu’s and peetadhipathi’s have to do more sadhana to control their guna’s.
Please follow Dharma and make peace.
Dharmo rakshathi rakshitaha.
Friends, do you think god expects us to save him? I always thought god is OUR saviour. LET GOD BE GOD! God is all powerful. He does not need we frail humans to protect him or fight for him. If he needs humans to protect his name then he can not be god. Enough of fighting and killing in the name of god or religion. Do not insult god by declaring war in his name to protect him as though he is powerless. If his name is in danger he knows how to preserve his name.
No god is happy when his children fight among themselves.
God teaches love, peace, forgiveness.
Sai baba is a bugus guru cheating millions of innocent
These are nothign more then hyped up articles to incite the Hindu minds.
Ho ! You poor one ! Sai(Shridi/Sathya) never claimed to be a GOD nor GURU. Only those had faith on him did worshipped him/them. If you can’t even believe, whatever he did was like a father to his children, you lack love in your heart. Love yourself first PUJA. Did any one of these teachers cheat your money???. Please find your self a spiritual teacher and read a lot of spiritual books, before commenting on those are in higher order than you. GOD BLESS YOU.
Namasthey,
This is a great disaster to happen for HInduism. The Congress divided Hindus and Muslims, they lost Muslim vote bank. Now they are dividing the Hindus to gain but who are they expecting to vote for Congress?
SAD SAD SAD
Adishankara tried to revive Hinduism protect it but we have this Peethadhipathi apparently equal to Shakaracharya is dividing Hinduism and Harming the same Santana Dharma which Adhshankara Saved from downfall.
Doesn’t matter:
Doesn’t really matter if Sai Baba is a Hindu or a Muslim because people across the religion and Nations Sing the name of Rama, Krishna, Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, Durga, and the list goes on…… I think Sai Baba has and is briging the awareness of Santana Dharma and its greatness across the globe. THey chant vedic mantras and Vishnu sahasranaam. Tell me what is more important. The Santana DHarma has suffered the onslaughts of internal conflicts in the name of Saiva, Vaishnava differences being only one single example…. Now that does not exist. So now the politicians and Shankara charya of Dwaraka peeth are bringing another internal conflict to achieve…… What….
Question:
How much has this Shankaracharya Achieved in terms of bringing up the awareness of Santana Dharma, supposedly the purpose of his existence in the mutt. I am not seriously aware of this…. Atleast to me it is not evident as it should be…..
Another question:
Sai Devotees as well as the Hindu devouts- What image are we giving to this world about whatever we stand for? Do we really want to fall for this petty stuff leaving alone the great truth ” Ekam Sat vipra Bahudha Vadanti”, “Sarvam Khalvidam Bramha”……..
We as an Indian should UNITE and be an example to others. Most importantly, we have to remember the teaching of our first Guru ( Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma ).
Om Namah Shivaya
even Sadhu Shankracharya is a puppet of the universal energy, he is acting accordingly as the will of the only light (God, krishna ) existing in the universe ! what has to happen will happen… Love is the energy of God and a solution to overwin all with love is the true Godly work.
Thanks
The report was very muddled, a case of poor journalism as well as very poor understanding of the subject and NO research, no consultation with any competent authority.
I may be completely wrong but the issue here is the following [ and I am NO supporter of Swarupananda, who lacks self-control, slapping journalists, and behaving in a repugnant manner. Nor do I hold any brief for the naga sadhus, the majority of whom are no sadhus at all].
There are specifically panchayatan temples in which the photos or images of Shirdi Sai Baba has been established. Orthodox members of the Sanatana Dharma have protested and rightly so.
This is not any insult to Shirdi Sai Baba. His devotees hav the right to establish temples in his name and worship him as they please in those temples, and in their homes. No one has the right to say anything in this matter.
In Tamil Nadu, there are at least 6 temples dedicated to film starlets where regular services are conducted in the traditional styles. There are temples where the priests are Muslims, and many, many classes of non-Brahmins, all over India.
Let us try to understand a crucial fact about temple worship in Indian tradition. When any temple is established, a set of conditions are set out. It is as if a contract is being established with the Universe, with the Deity, or howver you wish to define such things.
This and this will be worshipped thus and thus: e.g. Shri Rama will be worshipped here along with Sri Sitamata, Sri Ramanuja and Sri Mahavira, and khichadi bhoga will be offered 5 times a day. PQR modes of worship from such and such a tradition will be followed, say some particular sect or type of scripture, e.g. Paancharaatra. XYZ types of people will be fed. This is a binding contract . It tells us that the worship of Sri Rama cannot be conducted with the mantras and rites dedicated to Sri Gopala, or SrimanNarayana, although thse are but varying aspects of Sri Rama.
If a temple be established for the worship of Sri Rama in His infant aspect, the worship of Him in His mature Warrior aspect will be similarly proscribed. That does not mean that this MahaKodandaRama is being insulted. Far from it. It is just that in this particular situation, only the infant aspect is being adored.
The same logic applies with the intrusion of Shirdi Sai Baba images or photos into temples that already have been dedicated in a particular way to particular deities. It has no relevance to the fact that he was a fakir or he ate meat, etc. Sri Rama ate meat and so did many other deities, including those who are offered blood sacrifices each day. Swarupananda is an idiot. I am saying this clearly to his face and to his followers.
Just as I am clearly saying, it is not just Shirdi Sai Baba representations, but any other than the designated deities have no place in the particular temples assigned to particular deities. Suppose someone wished to place representations of Sri Ramakirshna, or Sri Ramana, or Sri Ma Anandamayi, etc. the answer would still be NO.
At Sri Dakshineshwar, we find the main Kali temple and also temples dedicated to Sri Sri Radha-Krishna and SriMahadeva, set up as separate stand-alone shrines. This is exactly as it should be. IN a panchayatana temple, only the 5 deities suggested by Smarta rites, should be present and NONE ELSE.
If someone feels devotion to another aspect they consider divine, let another separate shrine be constructed. Not a problem. The issue is NOT one’s freedom to worship whomever or whatever one wants, but the propriety and indeed, “legality” of doing so in a temple that already enjoys a certain CONTRACT OBLIGATORILY ESTABLISHED WHEN it was first founded. This CONTRACT is that temple’s reason for existing. This point needs to be well-understood. A temple is a YANTRA. It is not a sentimental structure ONLY, but functions at many levels, seen, unseen, psychological, social, metaphysical, etc.
We are confusing too many issues owing to the lack of understanding of what a temple is and is not, in the first place. Namaskar.
